DeMolay Obligatory Days
Obligatory Days are fixed as special ceremonial days and their observance is obligatory for all members of DeMolay unless prevented by unavoidable circumstances.
Patriots' Day
Observed in February, arranged by the Standard Bearer, featuring the nation's great patriotic events and patriots.
- Present a flag that has flown over the capitol to a civic body or lodge
- Sponsor a patriotic speech competition
- Attend a fireworks display as a chapter
- Place flags at memorial sites or veterans' graves
- Pay tribute to living veterans
- Sell lawn display flags
- Invite a patriotic speaker
- Support local veterans clubs
- Sponsor a member of the Armed Forces
Devotional Day
Held during the week that includes March 18 — attend a group service arranged with a local place of worship.
- Read scripture, play music, sing hymns
- Provide altar flowers or gifts to attendees
- Offer refreshments after a service
- Assist Sunday School
- Perform the Flower Talk
- Honor local clergy
- Donate DeMolay Bibles to members' families
Parents' Day
Observed between May 1 and June 21 — emphasize gratitude to parents, often led by the Preceptors.
- Hold a special meeting or appreciation dinner
- Perform the Flower Talk
- Create Mother’s/Father’s Day cards
- Host parent‑child activities
- Send flowers or balloons to parents’ workplaces
My Government Day
Observed in July — focus on understanding local, state, and national government, guided by the Orator and Marshal.
- Present a flag to a civic institution
- Participate in a parade
- Visit the Capitol or City Hall
- Hold observance at a patriotic monument
- Honor public officials
- Shadow officials for a day
- Obtain a proclamation for DeMolay Month/Day/Week
Frank S. Land Memorial Day
Near November 8 — honor the founder of DeMolay; raise funds for DeMolay charities.
- Donate the book “Hi Dad” to libraries
- Honor father figures in the community
- Recognize Advisors
- Visit Frank S. Land’s gravesite and office
Day of Comfort
Between November 15 and December 31 — focus on visiting the sick and bringing comfort, coordinated by the Almoner.
- Visit patients with small gifts
- Volunteer for the needy or food banks
- Assist at day care or custodial care centers
- Sponsor needy families
- Provide essentials to shelters
- Host events for elders or youth in care
Educational Day
Held on a convenient day — celebrate the value of education, planned by the Junior and Senior Stewards.
- Present appreciation to teachers
- Honor an outstanding educator
- Host speeches about public education
- Invite an educator to speak
- Assist in classrooms for a day
- Host a dinner to appreciate teachers
- Research and share career goals
- Attend career day events
